Data and probability

Probability

A probability says how likely something is, as a number between 0 and 1: the number of favourable outcomes divided by the number of possible outcomes.

Why

You roll a die and need a six to win. How big is your chance?

In a board game you can feel that rolling a six does not happen all that often. But how often, then? And is rolling an even number easier?

Probability turns that feeling into a number. Then you can compare, invent fair games and predict roughly what happens when you roll very often.
